Ithaca’s government is both amateurish and overwhelmed. At a time when city services are needed more than ever, too little taxable property requires residents to pay and pay and pay.

Meanwhile, neighborhoods of houses built in the early 1900s are converted into warrens of student storage — the income being deposited in accounts of non-residents. What housing is built is created for students. Besides student housing, luxury housing and hotels, no new commercial construction or manufacturing is planned.

Someone has to ask why...
