Are you kidding me.... Why wasn't this included in the Town Budget that was voted on rather than on a Friday night private meeting. A new investigator position, a huge raise for the Chief, yep, its starting...hold on taxpayers. The Town Board is just like the old Village Board, secret, spending, secret spending..Unbelievable!!!! Everyone else is getting no raises, but the PD budget is going up little by little. Thanks Town Board... What's next?

its starting...hold on taxpayers. The Town Board is just like the old Village Board,
It's not starting..it never ends. You got it right in the 2nd part.
People keep electing overseers and saviors, and wondering why nothing ever really changes. The core problem is the existence of government...it's always stupid, always wasteful, and always corrupt and harmful.
It is what it is, and as long as it is, nothing important will change.
Here's a great song, but I think 99% of the people don't quite listen hard enough to the last two lines, which are the most important. So, 99% get fooled over and over and over and over, and never do figure it out.:
We'll be fighting in the streets With our children at our feet And the morals that they worship will be gone And the men who spurred us on Sit in judgment of all wrong They decide and the shotgun sings the song
I'll tip my hat to the new constitution Take a bow for the new revolution Smile and grin at the change all around me Pick up my guitar and play Just like yesterday And I'll get on my knees and pray We don't get fooled again Don't get fooled again
Change it had to come We knew it all along We were liberated from the fall that's all But the world looks just the same And history ain't changed 'Cause the banners, they all flown in the last war
I'll tip my hat to the new constitution Take a bow for the new revolution Smile and grin at the change all around me Pick up my guitar and play Just like yesterday And I'll get on my knees and pray We don't get fooled again Don't get fooled again No, no!
I'll move myself and my family aside If we happen to be left half alive I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky For I know that the hypnotized never lie
Do ya?
There's nothing in the street Looks any different to me And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye And the parting on the left Is now the parting on the right And the beards have all grown longer overnight
I'll tip my hat to the new constitution Take a bow for the new revolution Smile and grin at the change all around me Pick up my guitar and play Just like yesterday Then I'll get on my knees and pray We don't get fooled again Don't get fooled again No, no!
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Meet the new boss Same as the old boss

WHAT! This is an outrage. That is way too much money. Economic crisis? The police department is growing to ridiculous staffing and pay right in front of us. Don Earle, you should be ashamed of yourself. Emil is full of empty campaign plans too. We need to do something. It is just like the village all over again.
8,000? THAT IS A HUGE RAISE! THE BUDGET IS OUT OF CONTROL AND EVERYONE IS TOO AFRAID TO SAY ANYTHING. THE LITTLE BOYS CLUB IS IN FULL SWING.

It's in black and white.
Why don't you step up to the plate and run for office?

Well sure, if that's the case, he now has more responsibility, therefore, he deserves a raise.

He took the job knowing what the salary was, after one year he gets an $8k raise. I didnt get a raise this year, and I know alot of others who have not gotten a raise in years. If it was all above board, why didnt the town Board put it in the budget so the public could comment on it rather than passing it in secret at a special meeting. The Town PD budget is over 1.5 million and growing, look it up, it is right there on line, but you have to search all of the budget lines to find the true budget for the PD. A new investigator and a huge raise for the PD Chief on the backs of taxpayer.

Good to see the two brothers are back on here crying about the PD. I live in the town and have called the PD for their service, they were fast to respond and very professional. I have took the time to go through the budget and do my homework before coming on here and crying about the PD and the town board. Take the time to look at other town police department budgets. Better yet take the time to look at the sheriffs budget, thats something to cry about. And if you really take the time look at what the former chief was making. Somewhere around $84000 plus. I think this town board has done a great job minis TJ.

These services will NEVER go AWAY. Just like the landfill. Not going anywhere.
Indians will not ever pay taxes either.

And if you really take the time look at what the former chief was making. Somewhere around $84000 plus.
That's disingenuous, because you know that many were protesting that salary, also.
And it's not enough to say that this chief, or that chief, or that school teacher or county attorney, deserves more, simply because these other ones, over there, get that.
That's just a self-serving way to continually ratchet up public sector pay.
The real issue is whether the total remuneration package of government workers, on average, considering all levels, will continue to be double what the average private sector worker receives.
Are they truly public servants? Do they truly represent us? Are they among us, or are they a priviledged leadership class, booted and spurred, even if not born that way, and riding the rest of us, for all we're worth?
I don't know Peenstra, but I'm presuming he's a great guy, and very likable, if only because my view of human nature says that appointees first have to be liked by those appointing them, or they don't get appointed.
Even though I don't live in SF, it's my issue, too, because I'm an American. The present state of affairs is unsustainable, simply because it's so unfair and divisive.
This general state of affairs will have to be resolved, one way or the other, if this country is to move forward.
If I were Peenstra, would I want a raise? Sure...we all would.
Would I give it back? Of course not.
He's like all of us; if he's mentally healthy, he has a solid sense of self-worth, and he can always reasonably point to some other chiefs, and say, "Why not me, too? What am I...chopped liver?".
He didn't cause this nationwide problem, and it didn't start with this particular raise.
But, if it's ever to be dealt with, the real problem, the larger issue, first has to be identified and faced, and that's my intent here.

Well said vm smith, I tend to disagree with you on some issues. The people of this town should be thankful for the emergency services they get. Police, fire and ambulance. I have lived in other towns and cities where you will wait along time for someone to respond. Be thankful for what you have, you never know when you are going to need them.
