A Trumansburg man pleaded guilty in Schuyler County Court on Wednesday to an assault that put his father, a Hector Town Board member, into a coma for several months.
Andrew J. Yaw, 19, of West Seneca Road, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and second-degree assault. Yaw told Schuyler County Court Judge Dennis J. Morris that he attacked his father, Clifford Yaw, on Feb. 1 with a metal level that was was several feet long. Andrew Yaw said he hit his father several times, causing skull fractures that put him into the coma.
Yaw also admitted assaulting an inmate June 27 in the Schuyler County Jail.
At sentencing Feb. 14, Schuyler County District Attorney Joe Fazzary expects Yaw to receive a sentence of of 20 years in prison with 5 years of post-release supervision on the first-degree assault conviction and 2 years in prison on the second-degree assault conviction as part of the plea bargain.
