This will be the second year in a row that star shine will be held at the Yates county courthouse lawn instead of downtown Penn Yan as it always has, the reason last year it wasn't held downtown is because the Liberty Street bridge was closed this year is because the local merchants banned together against it being held downtown. That's the story a spokesperson from the chamber of commerce is telling the public, they claim that kids and star shine are bad for business and that the merchants were complaining the kids were requesting to use the stores restrooms. Whatever happen to the saying let's do it for the kids has it changed to let's do it to the kids, shame on the chamber of commerce and the local merchants who have turned into scrooges$$$. Maybe the public should boycott the local businesses and see how they like it, Merry Christmas.

If that is the case then I agree. Are the local merchants that heartless to not let the kids use their bathrooms really? I agree if that is the case then everyone should go elsewhere to shop and then let the merchants wonder how they are going to stay open when they no customers. Star Shine is for the kids and having it downtown is a tradition that should not be broken. I remember going myself when I was a kid and I enjoyed.

Great idea! And after the businesses have located elsewhere, the ex-customers can wonder who will have the pleasure of making up the portion of the village/county revenues that was provided by the property and sales taxes formerly generated by those businesses. Maybe they can all draw straws to see who the lucky winners will be.

I liked it at the Court House Lawn, Church and Library. Did we really need to have the Miss PY Candidates sign "Grandma Got Runned Over By A Raindeer"?

Starshine is nothing great anyways. When it was on Main St,what did it have to offer? Burnt popcorn? There was no craft tents, booths etc set up. All it is , is the towns people standing in the street talking. There was not a thing to do .

Well, actually, it's a way to support your local non-profits. And it was a way for the youngsters to visit with Santa. The little ones get so excited when they see his arrival. And it's a way to get into the holiday spirit for most people but I guess not for you. Have a great holiday season - Bah Humbug!

Maybe the Village should've been providing porta potties instead of requiring the businesses to carry the burden.

It also must be hard for the merchants, winter is brutal for them and at the beginning of the winter the village kills a friday afternoon/evening for them closing off main street and the fact that there would be no place for customers to park...

...and a great way to see the late teens and early twenties get black out drunk and fight each other in the street, sometimes with their children present.

Ahh, the holiday's in Penn Yan!

That's right it's about the children enjoying Christmas, I'm sure we all can make that possible.

Why can't children enjoy Christmas on the courthouse lawn?
