I ate road kill once:
I was headed from the lake to Andrews' Gas Station, Bayard and Stevenson. Down by what is the CIN store, there was no dead pheasant on the to SF trip. On the return trip, 15 minutes later, there was a nice, fat, fresh rooster in the road. He only had one leg, but he was mighty fine eating!
I love being part of the natural world, which includes humans, and their cars, just as it includes beavers, and their dams.
Similar story with not so tasty results.
1982, maybe 83 it was pretty close to when we bought our house on the lake in 81. My wife and I were on our way home to Lower Lake Rd after going out to Venice pizza for dinner on a Friday evening. We took the "back road" home,Garden St Extension.Better for us than Bayard St. I had just made the bend off Stevenson St by the overload apts and right by the old railroad tressle about 20 pheasants ran right out in front of our car.I couldn't go left to avoid them. I couldn't go right to avoid them. What are ya gonna do? Went straight and did a quickie u-turn on what is that Farron Rd?. Went back to check out the scene. I was thinking like you. I had to have hit a bunch of them I had pheasant dinners for the future on my mind.
Not a single stinkin bird got hit imagine that. That couldn't happen again in a thousand years.
