I see in today's FL Times (10/7) page 5A, that the Town of Geneva is raising Benton's water rates from $1.55 to $1.75 per 1000 gallons.

On page 3A it states that the City of Geneva's water rate will go to $4.28 per 1000 gallons.

There's a thread on the Seneca County Forum about water rates (Help me with my math) that states that Seneca Falls rate is a bit less than three the Benton rate, which would make it about $5 per thousand.

I looked up PY's rate, according to the web site, I (We) pay $8.18 per 1000 gallons! Why?

Because the VB is lazy and they let the clerk run the show and the village has to many employees, and they are paid to high of a salary like the newly created position of recreation and facilities director who never can be located. The VB is out of control with their good ole buddy system.

You hit the nail right on the head. The Village of Penn Yan is way overstaffed, way overpaid, and and none of them are held accountable. Instead of downsizing, they always manage to create more positions. What new position are you talking about? We have a full-time Recreation Director (although why that warrants a full-time position is beyond my comprehension). Are they adding another position? Are they expanding Doyle's position? Is this a competitive job or taylor-made just for Doyle? Inquiring minds want to know.

In keeping with the intent of this thread, I challenge the village board of Penn Yan, to reduce staff and/or consolidate some positions. But I do realize that it is difficult to lay off family members, best friend's kids and good old boys and girls. Don't want to disrupt the country club.

Well instead of voicing it here why not voice your concerns in
person? I'm almost sure face to face will get you a better/maybe honest answer than on these forums. Some can't just lie in person but to answer your questions on here is real easy to slip and lie to one. JMO

From the Seneca County thread:
Quote:
Thanks. I was hoping that there was a website that made this easy... I went to individual websites as you suggested and here is what I found:
Seneca Falls - $5.01 per 1000 gallons
Geneva - $1.75 ""
Freeport - $1.90
Bethlehem - $2.43
Buffalo - $3.05
Syracuse - $3.84
Ithaca - $6.01

These were just the first sites that came up... SF seems to be at the high end. I think we need to keep investigating since information doesn't seem to be forthcoming from the local government.

They forgot to add PY's $8.18 per 1000 gallon. Maybe this is why the Water System was audited.

we use are new water system with cooler /heater provided for cookin/drinking. Fresh cold or hot and it's only $22.00 per month we use about 20 gal per month. Town/village water for dishes and laundry and sanitation issue .Fauset water isn't worth drinking.
I also have 5 ea 55 gal collection tanks for yard/garden watering. I'm piping it to the toilet this summer. No rain well turn valves and be billed for sewer water.

Maybe because a village worker has been charging the parts for his personal vehicle to the village's water department? I'll post these illegal charges in the near future..

Perhaps the water rates reflect the need to pay for the water plant, yet another state mandate.

I find it incredible that so many public employees find a way to use public funds for personal use. Wasn't the water department just audited? Why did they not find this?

The water rate of $8.15 per thousand gallons is based on the estimated cost of operating the water plant for a year.

The money to pay for the water plant improvements is raised by the monthly customer charge of $7.51.

By the way their is no state mandate for a village or town or county to have a water plant. If you want to blame somebody look toward the Village Board and the MUB, not the state nor the federal govt.

And then the village would get its water where?

Considering the above is an unsubstantiated accusation, I wouldn't condemn the all public employees yet.

Pilot I know the man well. If he says he's got the proof he's got it. And I am very knowledgable on the activity of the last 6-8 years as far as who knows how to rake the system from the inside out. My "condemnation" is for certain people who have been proven to do EXACTLY what they have been accused of. It's not always a theft of money. It is the outright abuse of power to control public employees and refuse to acknowledge the incompetence of others.

Well, the voters are happy. Maybe if your "proof" showed up with the State Police so they could act on it. But probably not since anyone can fling accusations from behind anonymity.
