Better yet let's talk about that and the town of covert issues. How about the $90,000 of tax payer money that went to trumansburgs fire dept for Ambulance coverage that was owed to south Seneca Ambulance? Or the fact that the residents of covert are being scammed into paying more for an ambulance that will be coming from tburg and not south Seneca. The response time will not make you feel safe. If you live anywhere north of halls corners road you will have to wait for tburg. Sounds great huh? Funny how the town meeting was called to sign the contact and guess who didn't show up? Nice job town of covert...way to look after your residents.

  • Distance from South Seneca Ambulance to downtown Interlaken: Approx 8 mi and 11 minutes driving time.
Distance from T-burg Fire Dept. to downtown Interlaken: Approx 6 mi and 7 minutes driving time.

Distance from South Seneca Ambulance to Halls Corners Rd: Approx 10 mi and 17 minutes driving time.
Distance from T-burg Fire Dept. to Halls Corners Rd: Approx 5 mi and 8 minutes driving time.

Looks to me like the new service will have faster response times.

Behind your back? It was in the paper this week and discussed at a public meeting: http://www.ithaca.com/news/south_seneca/article_b38af33e-0d80-11e2-b23e-0019bb2963f4.html

Driving time isn't the only factor in the response of an ambulance from time of call to an ambulance arival at your door!

Oh I see they are already running calls from tburg with town of covert Ambulance...great job..now let's look into the certificate of need (CON)..seeing that south Seneca holds the current one....so last time I checked one area was not allowed to have more then one con..I may be wrong but let's look into it. Let's see how many people die from cardiac arrest because the Ambulance from tburg takes to long to get to lodi covert town line road

The state department of health ems bureau often issues certificates of need to multiple agencies for the same area. As far as I recall, Trumansburg and South Seneca have each held a certificate for the Town of Covert for many years. A contract for ambulance service with the town is a business agreement. This is totally separate from a certificate of need.

Distance from Trumansburg FD to lodi covert town line road: 7.1 mi, 14 min.
Distance from SS Ambulance to lodi covert town line road: 10.1 mi, 17 mins

Face it: The new ambulance service is closer to Covert than the old one. SS is located in the south end of Romulus, which is not an adjoining town to Covert and requires them to drive all the way through Ovid to get to anything in Covert. Tburg is located in an adjoining town and it's ambulance building is very close to the Covert/T-burg line.

The same as it always was. But now they have an ambulance service located closer to the town.

If you will check, It will cost taxpayers in the Town of Covert much more than South Seneca was asking for in the contract. Two years ago, South Seneca Ambulance was asking for a total town contract of $23,000 dollors. Trumansburg was asking for $93,000. You do the math.Mr. Renyolds has done a great job saving the taxpayers money. The hole problem started with the town attorney and co-pay's. Trumansburg is, and has to by law charge co-pay's.

Very true, and STILL do. If a request for service is made ( if the person ask's for South Seneca ) they should be dispatched.

Its a federal medicare law. If Trumansburg is charging for service's, then they must charge for co-pay's!

This thread is entitled "Interlaken Fire Dept.", so I ridiculously thought the conversation was about the Interlaken Fire Dept; you suggested you had something to discuss, but never enlightened us on what, specifically, bothered you about the Interlaken FD. Instead, I read about Trumansburg, Covert, et. al. Do you actually have something to say about IFD?

Kitty...Its hard to understand onlyUcanJudge. He/she sounds like pro Trumansburg EMS and anti South Seneca. Trumansburg has some verg good EMT's and Paramedic's working for them as does South Seneca. Its really more of a political issue than a health care issue, and you know what happenen's when you let politicians run health care!
