Warchdog File: Crime in NYSBroome County had the highest rate of total index crimes in 2015 — at 3,286 per 100,000 people, it was nearly twice the state median of 1,971. Twenty other counties, including Chemung, Tompkins and Monroe, also exceeded the median rate.
Broome's property crime rate was highest in New York as well, at 2,968 per 100,000. Tompkins, Chemung and Monroe counties were among the 21 other counties above the state median.
