Gun carrying man ends stabbing spree at Salt Lake grocery store
4/26 8:20 pm
Reported by: Don Hudson

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A citizen with a gun stopped a knife wielding man as he began stabbing people Thursday evening at the downtown Salt Lake City Smith's store.

Police say the suspect purchased a knife inside the store and then turned it into a weapon. Smith's employee Dorothy Espinoza says, "He pulled it out and stood outside the Smiths in the foyer. And just started stabbing people and yelling you killed my people. You killed my people."

Espinoza says, the knife wielding man seriously injured two people. "There is blood all over. One got stabbed in the stomach and got stabbed in the head and held his hands and got stabbed all over the arms."

Then, before the suspect could find another victim - a citizen with a gun stopped the madness. "A guy pulled gun on him and told him to drop his weapon or he would shoot him. So, he dropped his weapon and the people from Smith's grabbed him."

By the time officers arrived the suspect had been subdued by employees and shoppers. Police had high praise for gun carrying man who ended the hysteria. Lt. Brian Purvis said, "This was a volatile situation that could have gotten worse. We can only assume from what we saw it could have gotten worse. He was definitely in the right place at the right time."

Dozens of other shoppers, who too could have become victims, are also thankful for the gun carrying man. And many, like Danylle Julian, are still in shock from the experience. "Scary actually. Really scary. Five minutes before I walk out to my car. It could have been me."

Police say right now they have no idea what caused the suspect to go on the dangerous rampage. (We will update as soon as we learn new information.)

So far, police have not released the names of the suspect, the victims or the man who pulled the gun.

People should've cowered in corners, continuing to be stabbed, until police came and subdued the man after a 6-hour standoff shown on national television. We cannot allow vigilante justice!

For every "hero" with a gun, there's an "idiot" with a gun.

From the Times of Wayne County:

Driver pulls gun on what he thought was drunk driver

When Artur Slepecki's vehicle was struck by another driver on Route 104 near Lakeside Road in the Town of Ontario on Thursday (3/22) just before 4 p.m., he thought the erratic driver was drunk. The driver had struck another vehicle before hitting Slepecki and eventually ended up in a ditch.

The other driver exited his vehicle to find an angry Slepecki approaching with a 380 pistol pointed at him. The 911 center began to receive a slurry of calls reporting a man waving a pistol on Route 104. The erratic driver jumped back in his vehicle and sped away, immediately stopping after police pulled behind him.

What Slepecki did not realize was that the erratic driver was having a diabetic reaction at the time of the driving incident. Slepecki received a broken ankle in the accident and according to police there was significant damage to his vehicle.

On Wednesday (4/25) Slepecki, age 52, of Pineview Drive in Macedon was arrested for Menacing in the 2nd Degree. He told police he thought he was in danger from what he thought was a drunk driver. Slepecki was issued an appearance ticket for Ontario Town Court for May 1st. "This was another road rage incident. I am seeing him (Slepecki) losing his permit," said Wayne County District Attorney Rick Healy.

For "every"? FBI stats, or are you making it up as you go along?

http://www.pulpless.com/gunclock/noframedex.html

5,638,653 defenses, and counting, against crime, with legal guns, since 1/1/2010. That's 1 every 13 seconds. How many incidents illustrating the degree of criminal idiocy that Slepecki showed, in that time?

You think of him, 1st, as a gun owner. I think of him, 1st, as a nut, and a criminal.

So he is a "nut and a criminal" with a legal right to carry a firearm?

Hmmm, all 30,000 posts summarized by this contridictory dribble of wasted bandwidth.

The gun owner will get off as the other person attacked him with the car and can be viewed as a deadly weapon. BTW - he did not shoot the guy just protected himself.

You think of him, 1st, as a gun owner. I think of him, 1st, as a nut, and a criminal.

Gee, when I loaded the page, the number was over 5,638,800. Is it tied into some tremendous crime counting data base? Hardly -- when you look at the page source, it's a simple script to add 1 to the number every 13 seconds. And that's based on some supposed "study" done almost 20 years ago, but with no documentation or explanation of how the "study" was conducted.

But even without getting into the dubiousness of the "study," if the claim that a defense against a crime occurred every 13 seconds was even close to accurate, why haven't there been any such cases reported in Geneva for the past year? (If there have been, please enlighten me) Is it because there no criminals in Geneva? Or that there are no gun owners in Geneva? (or am I the only one?) Perhaps it's because the rate of defense against crime is higher in other areas -- for example, instead of every 13 seconds, a successful defense occurs every 5 seconds. Oh, that's right, it's not newsworthy or there's some media conspiracy tied to gun control advocates to cover it up.

Or, just maybe the supposed study claiming that such defenses occur every 13 seconds is a bucket of hogwash.

This incident is just an an example of how, even with the restrictive gun laws in NY state, people with questionable judgment wind up with CC permits.

This incident is just an an example of how, even with the restrictive motor vehicle laws in NY state, people with questionable judgment wind up with drivers licenses. To prevent this in the future, we should take away everyone's driver license. Can't be too careful you know.

Here's two more for the good guys.

Two burglars dead after breaking into the home of two Marines.

Monday at 1:57 AM.

JACKSONVILLE, N.C.– Two Camp Lejeune Marines returned home early Sunday morning to find two men in their house. The intruders didn't make it out of the house alive.

33-year-old, Maurice Skinner and 33-year-old, Diego Everette were identified by police as the men killed in the burglary attempt. Both men are from Jacksonville.

Skinner and Everette were pronounced dead at the scene, but according to Jacksonville Police Chief, Mike Yaniero it is unlikely that anyone will be charged in the shooting.

"The investigation is ongoing, however at this time there is no evidence to suggest that criminal charges be filed."

Not for long.

According to the article Slepki approached the other driver that was still in his vehicle in the ditch. That's not self defense.

Enforcing existing gun laws. Any suggestions for getting illegal drivers off the street?

Totally agreed but I have a large question mark as to who is determined as "innocent"...A person for the suburbs protecting his/her personal welfare and property or the inner city innocent determined to do the same or are we to presume that all people from the cities are crooks.
