It is an unfortunate reality that things don't stay the same anymore. They are probably doing what they need to do to remain competitive. The name change beats turning the lights off.

It's the only bank in seneca falls that has grown, and not been bought out by a bigger bank, Or just closed....

SF Savings Bank unveils new name: Generations By JIM MILLER jmiller@fltimes.com | Posted: Wednesday, April 25, 2012 10:22 am SENECA FALLS — Seneca Falls Savings Bank called its first-ever press conference Tuesday — and, as it turns out, its last. The longtime local institution is now known as Generations Bank. The new name is the result of a rebranding effort, not a merger or acquisition, and the bank’s headquarters will remain in Seneca Falls. Its current leadership and employees remain in place. “It’s really a strategic move for us,” bank President Menzo Case said of the new name. “The unity that it provides is so important.” Royce & Rosenkrans, the bank’s insurance business, also is changing its name, to Generations Agency. Within minutes of Tuesday’s announcement, Case and other employees swapped their Seneca Falls Savings Bank lapel pins for ones with the new logo, a stylized tree. A placard with the new name was quickly placed on the podium that Case stood behind. “We’re putting up banners [outside] today and tomorrow, and then the signs have been ordered,” Case said. Founded in 1870, the bank has branches across the Finger Lakes region. With the bank expanding beyond its Seneca Falls roots, its leaders wanted a name that reflected that geographic range, as well as its core values. Discussions about the change began in November. “We realized that what defines us is not our geography — although that’s still very important — but our belief in partnering with all types of customers, including grandparents who have banked with us for 50 years, growing young families and even children who are part of our school savings programs,” said Robert Kernan, the chairman of the bank’s board. The bank had long used a tree as its logo and “generations of service” as a motto. That led to the new name. “There were many names [suggested],” Case said. “This was the best by far.” The new name will eliminate the confusion inherent in having a Seneca Falls Savings Bank of Waterloo or a Seneca Falls Savings Bank of Auburn. Customers sometimes mistook the latter for the Bank of America, Case said.
To retain a local touch, the name of each branch will include the name of its home community. The Seneca Falls branch, for example, is now known as Generations Bank of Seneca Falls.
“Everything that people have always loved about our bank and agency will remain the same,” Case said. “The changes we’re making are evolutionary in nature and will improve our customer experience every step of the way.” The bank plans a marketing campaign to inform customers of the name change. That, along with new signs, new stationery, new shirts and new billboards, adds up to a “very significant cost,” Case acknowledged. “We believe it’ll pay off in spades,” he said. “It’s so important to us to get all of this together.” Generations Bank has branches in Seneca Falls, Auburn, Waterloo, Geneva, Union Springs and Phelps. The bank’s new website is http://www.mygenbank.com. The insurance agency’s new website is http://www.mygeninsurance.com.

Disappointed in name change. Is this the 1st step in moving its headquarters to another town or city?
