Can anyone tell me the name of the vet that is in Lodi? I think it started with "Country". I remember going out of Lodi and the road forked to the left. I went that way to get to the place. Years ago I took my cats there. What I am doing is trying to find the cheapest place to get 2 females declawed and spaded.

Spayed yes. Declawed no. It is very cruel, equal to cutting your fingers off up to the first knuckle.

Yes, I know how far up they cut. I do not believe in de-clawing the back claws.

too bad you are not looking for the BEST veterinarian, I would have some suggestions. I tend to focus on the quality of care.

Price Ameriland Animal Hospital in Ovid. I don't know about those particular ops, but I found them pretty reasonable, overall, and thought they were knowledgeable.

Of course I am looking also for a good vet. When I took 2 cats to that place years ago, they were very good. They had a big discount on things at that time. I prefer closer to home in Seneca Falls. I have talked to the place on River Rd. awhile back.

Call around Auburn, there is a place my sister uses that does declaws relatively reasonable, decent care.

To my knowledge Ameriland does not declaw, but highly recommend them for quality vet care. Could try Eastview Vet, or Dr. Thompson that has gone in where Buell was- but not sure their stance on declawing.

I think I used that Lodi vet before I knew any better with getting my two labs spayed. I wouldn't have called it quality vet care. I think it's out of business isn't it? If it's the place I'm thinking of.

You're correct that the vet in Lodi has been out of business for years, and Ameriland will not declaw.

I beg you to reconsider. I honestly don't understand why it's even still a legal practice, and I would seriously question the integrity of any veterinarian who does it as a matter of course. There are always other options (like learning how to trim their nails on a regular basis).

Yet again, two more animals going to suffer something so cruel and painful by a human when all they will give is LOVE, AFFECTION AND COMPANIONSHIP. Please reconsider \:\(

My sister gets her cats declawed, they stay strictly indoors, and have seemed to have no trouble with it. My sister is also forced to spay and neuter half the cats in Auburn, so I figure cat-karma wise she's good. Every cat she has has been a stray and their life is pretty good. I personally am not that attached to furniture, some folks are and I guess if it keeps these kitties in a home, or gives them a home in this case versus a life on the streets, then as long as a qualified vet is willing to do it, who's to say?

In general, I'm agin' it; it's cruel. If it'll save a cat from being put down, I'd hold still for it, but I'd sooner give the cat away, or change the furniture. I clip my cat's claws, which can help, and we also have wooden scratching posts, as well as carpet-covered cat towers, which they also scratch on; they both do help.

Some of the cats which my Lady has rescued came already mutilated, and some aren't. If they all had claws, it would serve to make them all respect each other, and their powers of self-defense. As it is, the declawed ones are at a disadvantage, and the clawed ones know it, which leads to a certain amount of excess dominance bullying.

OTOH, my newly-arrived 19.5 yr old is not only holding his own against hers (ours, now), which have been here for a while, and one of which weighs 26 lbs, with his brother close to that, he's taking numbers and making a list. I hadn't thought the old boy had it in him, and was worried about how he'd fare, but that geezer is making them worry about him.

Reminds me of this old guy, 64 at the time:

I don't declaw my cats, but I don't think my sister is cruel either for doing it. She has 5 well fed orphans who watch cat videos and sniff nip half the day. Given their alternative, I'd say even they are ok with it in their case.

It's not always that easy to re-home a cat either, few folks want grown kitties, so in that case if it keeps a cat in its home, then I don't see a problem with it.

You can say it, and she can say it, but nobody asked the cats.

I am now reconsidering. I have cut down the claws of other cats so I know how. Yes, I will give it a go. As a note, they will be indoors only

Confinement is always a better situation for the cat. Ours are inside, but there's also an outside-the-back-door pen, with 7.5 or 8 ft plastic deer fence, and pvc posts, with a vertically-hinged pvc/net door for us, and with a staked-down bottom.

I use human nail clippers on cats; they work fine.

I'm glad that you are reconsidering the declawing of your cats. Maybe I've been fortunate, but I have never had an issue with one of my cats clawing furniture. I've also never had very expensive (or even new for that matter) furniture that I would have worried too much about.

As for spaying the cats, there are programs that will often times help you out with either low cost or even free services. Here is one link that I came up with:

http://www.lovethatcat.com/stny.html#NewYork

This offers a wide variety of contacts for spay services, scroll all the way down - hopefully you will find one near you. If not, do a Google search for discounted spay and neuter services - you may come up with others.

The Vet in Lodi is closed as mentioned her by another.
