Fred Reed, who has lived in Mexico for 8 yrs, and who married a Mexican wife, and adopted a Mexican daughter, says it is a mess, and that the mess is even reaching his small town. Everyone should pull his head out of the TV long enough, and take the blinders off long enough, to observe that the mess is almost entirely due to the US War on Some Drugs.
The war is coming home to your country, folks, and if you've ever voted for a republicrat who thinks that war is a smart and good idea, or if you do, you deserve to share that mess, even more than you now do, in this country. That border is about 1850 mi long, and since the WOSD is trashing Mexico, you'd have to be brain-dead to think that it hasn't already ping ponged back across that infinitely thin, imaginary line.
It's about control. Control of you folks, even if the drugs in question aren't those which you exercise your natural right to enjoy, if you so choose.
The USG thinks it has a vested interest in, and a right to exercise, that control, and it knows that Americans are frightened of the world, and thus willing to give up any and all liberties in order to sit in a comforting, warm puddle of faux security.
So, it'll continue to destabilize Mexico by, FI, continuing to arm the narco-traficantes, not to mention that the CIA will itself continue in the profitable trade, just as it did in Central America and Southeast Asia, and as it does in Afghanistan.
The WOSD corrupts everything it touches, being inherently corrupt, since it's a product of government, which is inherently corrupt. You've voted for this war; you've paid for it; you've been cheerleaders for it; you've earned this war. Enjoy.
Oh, yeah...government is duplicitious, and there's usually a deeper game going on. The US is militarily moving into Mexico, arming, allying with, and advising the Mexican state control apparatus; the excuse that's being fed to the public is that is that Mexico needs US "help" to fight the scourge of narcotics trafficking; enough of you will buy it so that the USG Empire will be able to control the half of Mexico that it hasn't already stolen.
