There you are...SF has had a pd for all these years, and it STILL has more crime than Victor. Keeping SF safe, one tax dollar after another.

You are one of the more intelligent ones here, so please don't think I am trying to get in to a flame with you. Can't say I totally agree. They have only so much control over crime prevention. There are a lot of good cops working in bad places.

Not to mention what the numbers would be without a town-wide PD

Right now the Town of Seneca Falls is paying 3 different police agencies....if the Town PD weren't here you would be paying for 2 agencies and even if town pd officers went to the Sheriffs their pay wouldn't be as high as it is now and the extra cost would be spread out through the entire county. So let's say it's an extra million a year...that cost gets spread out among everyone...but right now that extra million is being paid by Seneca Falls Town residents only. It would seem that in the long run it should cost less, at least for us townies.

Thank you, but I have to ask, then, why does SF have a higher crime rate than Victor, which is nearer the city? I argue that, although cops can certainly arrest someone after a crime is committed, they have very limited effect on how much crime is committed.

Actually they are facts unlike the "facts" that those who oppose the pd use. Check out the site for yourself.

That answer is simple. Less people means less crime and overpriced areas keep the rif raf out.

Seneca Falls' population in July 2009: 6,635. Estimated median house or condo value in 2009: $81,641.
Victor's Population in July 2009: 2,589. Estimated median house or condo value in 2009: $157,465

Contract the troopers or sheriffs and lets move on...we have better things to vote on.

If you think I'm playing the race angle, you're going off half cocked, because I'm not. It doesn't matter what the reason is; I'm just saying that cops can't stop crime, although, at budget time, that's all you hear them say.

You are totally correct, I will be fine since I am not one of the ones that you think I am. I am VERY happy since the old townies are paying some of my taxes for me. ;\)

Rumor has it that baiter has many, many identities. This identity does live in the town.

Gene Pool.

Live here and love it. But lets face it, this isn't Victor. Victor is surrounded by Farmington, Canandaigua, Pittsford, etc, etc...

We are surrounded by Geneva, Lodi, Waterloo.

What is the education level here? The level of income? How does this compare to the lifestyle afforded many Victor residents? (I am not giving you an assignment here - no need to answer, making a point)

Don't get me wrong. Said I love it here and am committed. But maybe I should be committed. Our "cops" might face some challenges that their cops don't. Just because they are near a city doesn't = a harder job for a cop.

We have our fair share of wackos contracting to have people killed, kicking cars and wandering children. For the love of God, could people stop punching people while they hold babies? Meth labs, sexting with minors and stealing from Children's Committee.

This looks a lot like Village dissolution. All I am saying is be careful what you wish for.

We could argue about some of your points forever, but there's no point in it. Even if everything you say is correct, my main contention is that the Sheriffs and State cops could handle it as well, and cheaper.

BTW, I don't live in SF, and haven't, for 23 yrs, so, even if I'm wrong, it's at least an honest, neutral opinion. I had/have no dog in this fight, so it's not "My side is better than your side.", as so often seems to be the case in squabbles like this.
