We are 3 hard working taxpayers and fully support the SF police dept. Whatever the chief is asking for is what he needs to protect all of us. The chief is a great guy and is working super hard to meet the needs of the community. Go talk with him like we have...he is the REAL DEAL!

Let's try not to make this about personalities. The Village dissolved because of the tax burden imposed upon them, plain and simple. Now they are trying to spread the expense out upon the Town at Large. The Town wasn't given the option of voting whether or not we wanted additional police protection, which many if not most didn't want or need. Now the department wants to expand to meet the area. So where is the savings the Villagers sought by dissolving, if the Department is going to increase? Almost sounds like it wants to be doubled. This is purely financial in my mind. Let's try to keep it that way. This point has been expressed before, but still others try to make this out to be personal.

Seems to me that before any action is taken there should be a bit of research involving the other law enforcement agencies as well as the SFPD to determine what degree of policing is projected. The result might be better cooperation between the Troopers (Ugh!), Park Police, Sheriff and SFPD to map out coverage patterns etc. The results of the research should be publicized. Then a determination should be made with public input about SFPD staffing and equipment. Without that type of research, no qualified decision can be made.

park police - real easy - stay in the damn parks and tend to campfires. stay off the highways - if i call for a cop i dont want no darn park rangers. why is it they are allowed to roam all over the roads not near parks. most of them are wannabee's who couldnt get a real police job.

What an ignorant Post. NYS DEC have full police status. They can arrest you just the same as any other law enforcement office. Their office focuses on environmental illegal activity.

http://www.dec.ny.gov/about/746.html

Try watching some of the Poaching shows that air on NATGEO and see what they deal with and the ignorant people that kill animals illegally, just to kill and then leave them all over to rot.

Actually the Park Police are not part of the DEC. They are part of the NYS Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.

The Park Police are State Police. Same academy, training and authority.

That`s correct 100%. Dec officers are SP with a specialty so they are one step ahead of a SP officer.Trust me I`m the Dr. and know

They are State Park Police not State Police. They have their own training academy and are trained differently than the State Police. They receive snowmobile operation, basic boat operation, rope rescue as well as Park and Recreation law. They actually have more training than the SP but are paid far less.....

Then maybe we would be better off with the park police patrolling our town. It's not personal, it's business. They say stew is a good guy, but that should not matter. It is about our taxes, our voice, and our future for our families. We deserve to vote and deserve to have a say. I voted for you, don earl.

You really think they have time to patrol the old Village and Town? They would have to hire many more Officers to patrol "our" area. They are too busy with their Park issues to be bothered with "Bob's" complaint about people driving too fast down Lower Lake rd. I voted for Don Earl also and say KEEP THEM.

Simple point: put some sfpd officers in sheriff cars and save a ton of money. Nothing would change. A couple sfpd flunkies would be unemployed and there are a few that should be. stoo should be forced to move here also but don earl is sitting on his hands. Don, you are acting like pete. No more votes for you.

With a 2% tax cap where is the funding for all these new officers and equipment coming from? As soon as the town board tries to exceeds the tax cap I think you will see people stirred into action.

I hope so, adding officers will nullify the cost savings we were looking for.
