Two of the homes had already been demolished and the discussion was if they should go thru with the third. Which they discussed, and agreed to finish what they started.

i believe the main focus of the original poster was to draw attention to the homes that were beyond saving. such as the home over by the car dealership in Ovid on 96A. Or the other one down the road, across from Ronnies Body Shop. 30,000 dollars wouldn't put a dent in those places they are falling over. The thought borders on laughable. But seriously what the heck is the town waiting for. Tear those eyesores down already.I have lived here my whole life and never seen the places occupied.

I think it's better taxes pay for cleaning up of these properties to make the land more appealing for selling...then leave rotting for 20, 30 and 40 years...

Actually most sit for years and years here same as anyplace else. But they go to good use for the homeless and crack dealers. I could take you through neighborhoods where there are more windows made of plywood than glass, but only in the daytime don't go near them areas at night. It's a numbers game there are way way more here, entire neighborhoods in despair.

Just a question for you? Is your house up to par or do you live in an apartment? You should make comments on other properties if yours is not clean either....just saying

This thread pertains to the houses that have caved in roofs and are condemned or beyond repair and why those houses are not being delt with properly...There is no reason for abandoned houses to be left to rot, fall down and become a safety issue...that would be defined as CLEARING land...I'm wondering why you are trying to drag the word"clean" into this thread, it has nothing to do with how "clean" a place is...That's a whole other topic, if you want to talk about that, start your own... thead...

Are you planning on selling, or are you just making that decision for other people, and are in favor of using everybody's money to pay for it? If the owner pays the money to clean it up, and then the county reassesses it because they feel it's worth more cleaned up, would you reimburse the owner for both expenses?

Fire depts used to burn places like that for practice. I've been told that they've stopped. I'll bet it's because of liability concerns. Would you be willing to try to get that practice returned to what it was? If so, and if it was stopped be cause of liability concerns, who would you have assume liability?

As much as Seneca County wastes our tax money, I pay taxes and have every right to voice where I think tax money is better spent..I think they should burn these dilapited houses..the owners have long abandoned them...better to train fire department and clear land...that's money well spent...There are a lot of people that would like to sell and get a better price for their house...as for taxes going up...oh well...that's life...sooner or later, one way or another...everyones taxes are going to go up...

In general, there are, but I was specifically asking about the people who own the houses in question. I doubt all of them want to sell.

I'm sure they'd like to, in some cases, but I'm told that they no longer do so. And what if the owner doesn't want his property burned. Suppose he thinks burning your property is a much better idea?

I didn't abandoned my property...or neglect my property...after the house is condemned there shouldn't be any say by the "owner"...I know they use to burn these types of houses....it's always been a good idea...people are so afraid that something bad is going to happen they don't see the positive...

But what is the difference? There are a lot of homes that are owned by people who don't take of their properties either. Why aren't you upset with them? Those house also bring down value or area homes.

Why not? Is it suddenly not his? How about if he has a vehicle or other appliance that doesn't work"

Would you use other people's money to seize his property and then junk it? Would you force him to do as you wish with his own property, and make him pay for it?

Who cares whether your property is abandoned or neglected? Whether your property is worth saving is strictly a value judgment, as with art, or as with a pile of weathered lumber.

The question is how would you respond if he thought it was a better idea to burn your property? Suppose he acted on that feeling? Suppose he got together with a few hundred, or even a few thousand, other people, and destroyed your property? Would that make it right?
