Some one is shooting cats in my little village. A good friend's cat lost her eye and still has a pellet lodged in the skull now we are hearing a second cat was shot. Unbelievable how mean people can be....

Sorry to say it is not unbelievable. Another reason to have "house" cats with collars and tags. There are too many idiots out there and you especially have to protect your cats from irresponsible owners of certain breeds. The good old days of letting kitty outside no longer exist. So sorry you have to go threw this. Please update us on how kitty is doing.

Gio saw that on TV about the cat shot twice in the head and eye and after two days the poor thing made it home. Made me just cry over what that poor cat went thru. Sorry to hear that there has now been another. Do they wonder if it is a kid or an adult. What kind of gun? Pellets or what (sorry I know nothing about guns or ammunition).

What bothers me even more is the first one was shot Feb. 17th and never taken to the Vet's until a month later. That poor cat must have suffered terribly for a month healing on his own. My cat would have been to the Vet's ASAP. Cats are definitely better off in the house with all the crazy/mean people around now.

That cat should have been taken right to the vet, a month? WOW
This kind of thing happens way too much, outside animals are an easy target for animals abusers

From the article:

Quote:
It was broad daylight,” Reno said. “He came in and was howling and laid down on the kitchen floor and didn’t want anyone near him.”

The cat had a small mark on its hip, but no other external injuries.

The next day, Reno found it lying with its head at a strange angle and its tongue lolling out. She thought it was dead.

Reno took Scotchy to Cayuga Veterinary Services, where an X-ray Tuesday night revealed a charge from a pellet gun and four fractures in the cat’s back left leg.

The bones have begun to mend at an odd angle, and Reno said it will cost about $1,000 to put a plate in the leg.

If you love the cat, anytime it comes home weak and howling in pain it needs immediate attention. If money is a problem, most vets will work with you for a payment plan.

I hope they find the SOB who did this! There are state laws to deal with such poeple. If caught, he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. If the proscuter decides to not do the job properly, alert the media and scream bloody murder... and make sure your voice is heard the next time he or she is running for office.

This is precisely the reason my cats stay inside. Too many jerks out there...

It keeps them from becoming roaderized, too. We have a fenced-in area (deer fence) in the back yard. They don't need much area, but they can enjoy the sun.

Mine are also indoor cats because of the main highway in front of my house. They stay cleaner and healthier indoors for many reasons.

I have no love for cats, but maiming any animal is just plain sick. The guilty party needs to have more than just the fullest extent of the law to deal with. Hope they catch the SOB.

As you can see I don't post on here too often, but I wanna give you Sweetys story, since I am her owner. Sweety came into our lives 2 yrs ago as a feral cat( with a package) she had 5 kittens we found homes for them and we kept 1, we got her fixed, and up to date on all her shots (not knowing if she would stick around) as time passed she came home more often, so we tried keeping her in doors, but her love has for being out side, ( we have 3 other cats that are in door animals only) we do have a 6ft fence around our house, but she aways managed to climb it! Since she has been shot TWICE, she has stayed in, but it's a fight with her, everyday to keep her in. Her passion was outside and SOME SOB took that from her.

To all cat owners. This is just for FYI,some states allow hunters to shoot stray cats. Domestic cats are an environmental disaster. The number of threatened and endangered song birds killed by cats is unbelievable, millions of birds a day. Many other types of wildlife are also killed, usually baby rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks and the list is endless.(as many as a billion per year in the US) Cats should be kept inside at all times. Spend some time researching this and you won't think your poor little kitty is so helpless. PS I like cats !

Some states used to allow people to whip, rape, and shoot people, on the merest of whims. There is no more a good argument for that than one for shooting cats.

Great point. I assume you're also in favor of killing hawks and eagles, snakes, foxes, bobcats, etc, etc., etc., for the same reason? And people...maybe we should kill everybody who shoots quail. Save the birds! LOLOLOL!

Your god created them all, I'm told, but I'm pretty sure he didn't appoint you as Chief of the Animal Police Dept..

I am serious in the above, but I am also that when I say that a very good argument can be made for not letting any of them wander free, for their own good, and for that of other beings. We have 138 12 cats and 3 dogs, and all of them are confined to the house and an attached 8 ft high fenced enclosure, or leashed or tethered.

No good argument can be made for shooting cats just because they're doing what cats do. Maybe for shooting their owners, sometimes...

Same thing for dogs running deer. First, there is certainly no shortage of deer; they're not going to disappear. Second, it's not the dogs' fault, but their owners'.

Dogs running deer isn't just an issue of threatened wildlife. A dog that runs deer will soon discover that domestic stock is much easier to catch. I hear a lot of complaints about cats running loose, but, not so much about people ignoring a county wide leash law. All animals should to be under their owners control at all times. A dog running loose is a far greater danger to wildlife, domestic stock and people.
