I can feel sympathy for teachers that get rated on the performance of their students. To be fair, the students should really have an IQ test at the beginning to see what their capability to learn is. Too many kids just do not care, to put it mildly.

And I also agree with VM that teachers should not be blamed for the failure of the kids parents. Kids are often the reflection of the homes they live in. I'd reference my own life, but I don't think starting school in the 50's relates. I was very fortunate.

Considering that nutrition is required for optimal physiological performance, the lack of which would logically reduce one's cognitive functions.

LOL...I can tell that you usually eat well.
I think there are any number of dietary steps which will improve both physical and mental function, which stands to reason; the brain is a physical organ. Generally, though, one implements them sequentially, and although each one might give a little improvement, and together, once implemented over time, quite a lot, it is a littlehard to tell.
But if you want one thing which may well give some noticeable benefit, and in a fairly short time, try giving up wheat.
The shoulder that had hurt, off and on, for 20 years, doesn't. My sinuses/allergies are better. Minor gut problems, which I thought were either normal, or due to coffee, are gone.
And mentally, my memory is better, and I feel a little quicker; the latter has been described by some as "wheat brain fog" going away. It's subtle, but you do notice it when it diminishes.
Wheat, barley and rye have high carbs, and carbs aren't good in the amounts the average American orca eats them (being largely responsible for the diabetes epidemic, FI), and they have glutins and lectins, which are usually bad for anybody.

And cholesterol, too.
The lipid hypothesis is just that, and it rests on shaky assumptions, at that.

Cholesterol is a good thing, not a bad one:
http://www.natural-health-information-centre.com/cholesterol.html
Dr. Stephanie Seneff has some interesting ideas about cholesterol. Her thinking is why I switched from vitamin D supplements to the sun and a sunlamp, which produce vitamin d SULFATE and cholesterol SULFATE in the skin. Vitamin D sulfate can't be found in the diet, which suggests that we're made to get our vitamin d from the sun. Unlike regular D, it is water soluble, so it can travel throughout the body without a carrier molecule, and it may have unique functions.
She's very interesting. Her bio, below, doesn't say so, but she became more interested in nutrition after her husband got sick. She brings a very good brain and a fresh set of eyes to the study of nutrition, into which there has been put too much incorrect dogma over the decades.
