Griping about it on this forum may bring awareness to some extent. However, you need to be more proactive. You need to continue to call, show up or write. You cannot let up. School administrators are very busy, I'm not making excuses, but you need to make your cause one of their priorities or else it gets put on the bottom of the list. I work at a school and I see it all the time, if students/parents are not persistent situations will be overlooked and forgotten about.
I would suggest the power of numbers. Find other students who are being bullied, get in contact with their parents and attend/ask to be put on the agenda for the next board meeting, and after or before that, ask to set up a meeting with administration and counseling. I'm telling you, this will work, but you NEED to follow through.

been there been doing that for 3 months....had meetings after meetings...sat in the office with with 2 other parents and their child who were all attacked by the same group of kids....and like i said....their punishment was 2 dance suspension...have sent numerous emails to each and every board member...i can only be so presistant and spend so much time at the school...every day life has to be taken care of as well...its a sad sitution that the school seems to think we are making a bigger issue out of it then it really is in their eyes..i often wonder if it dont come down to a case of who the bullies parents all...after all in this case in paticular one of the bullies parents works directly with the superintendent....

It has been an ongoing problem with each of my 3 children. When I talk to the principal, I get nowhere. I was told that my child must have done something first to provoke the bully. That is BS! At one point, my son was harassed so bad he finally decked the kid. I received a call from the school in which the principal actually admitted to knowing my son was being tormented and only defending himself, but was told he was being suspended because he needs to learn how to handle it differently. After 6 yrs of battling with the school I finally gave my son permission to defend himself. Enough is enough!

Give me a break! Why dont you ask the parents to beg? Document, film and record. Put on Youtube, provide the link and you will see action faster than someone can respond to this post. Get an attorney!
The School adminisrators do seem to "busy" and here lies the problem.

I'm not sure what you're getting at because in my original post I said that contacting the media would work in a heartbeat. I get it, you're preaching to the choir. I'm just trying to provide ideas that may not have been thought of yet.
Call or show up at the school every day to speak with the principal. If/when that stops working, go straight to the superintendent and tell them that you are very serious about letting the media know that there is a bullying problem in the school. Tell more parents, write a letter to the editor, contact local newspapers. Trust me, once you start letting them know that you have no intentions of letting up, they will change their tone and start taking it seriously. Not to mention the legal ramifications if/when the principal ignores what is happening and allows children to be harassed in what is supposed to be a SAFE environment. Good luck and whatever you do, don't give up.
See previous post above.

Thanks so much for all the input. This is why I posted. I want everyone to know that there is a bigger problem going on that we may not all be aware of since we don't always see all the parents. We should keep talking and letting others know that no one is alone and we should all work on fixing this together. Again thanks.

What are the names of those that have been told in the school system that have done "nothing"?

"I think that if a group of parents were to go to the media (a newspaper, or the news, post on youtube) you would see some sort of results. There has to be something under the umbrella of not providing a safe place. I feel like it would be the same type of law that employers have to follow. For example, if you tell your boss that someone is harassing you on the job, they have to do something about it or else they can get into a lot of trouble. I would think that there is something like that for schools as well."
Red..you are misinformed about what employers have to do about bullies in the workplace. Bullies in schools turn into bullies at their job when they are out of school. There are no laws protecting an employee from the attacks of a bully in the workplace. Unless you are from a protected class of citizens(i.e. race, sex, creed, national origin, religion) there is no remedy. Therefore if a male bullies another male...an employer is not obligated to do anything about that. Mind you, a decent employer would, but if he/ she doesn't want to be bothered with it, there is nothing an employee can do. It is a terrible situation to be in. You say find another job. Why should someone that has put in a lot of years in a place and is very close to retirement have to leave and start all over again somewhere else because of the actions of someone else? It is just not right. This is why we go to Albany to lobby for a Healthy Workplace Bill. It's getting very close to being passed. Here is a link to a press conference we did last year in Albany:
http://www.healthyworkplacebill.org/blog/ny-press/
To the parents who are trying to get something done about the bullying in school..don't give up. The bully that gets dealt with now may make it easier for the guy he works with in the future. God bless.
P.S. If you want any support/help please PM us.
