Democrat says Democratic Party bosses use voter fraud


Top Democrats are aggressively pushing the claim that Republicans’ worries about voter fraud are an insincere excuse to suppress voting by African-Americans and Hispanics.

But former Democratic Rep. Artur Davis told The Daily Caller that anti-fraud measures are needed to protect African-Americans from corrupt political bosses — many of them African-Americans themselves — who run Democratic Party machines in the South.

On Nov. 14, progressive Democratic Reps. John Conyers, Steny Hoyer, Jerrold Nadler, Keith Ellison, Steve Cohen, Marcia Fudge and Emanuel Clearer, the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus — along with representatives from several advocacy groups — held a meeting to complain about what they say is the danger posed by laws that require voters to identify themselves.

Artur Davis is unimpressed.

“What I have seen in my state, in my region, is the the most aggressive practitioners of voter-fraud are local machines who are tied lock, stock and barrel to the special interests in their communities — the landfills, the casino operators — and they’re cooking the [ballot] boxes on election day, they’re manufacturing absentee ballots, they’re voting [in the names of] people named Donald Duck, because they want to control politics and thwart progress,” he told TheDC.

“People who are progressives have no business defending those individuals.”

Davis is free to talk publicly because he quit electoral politics in 2010, giving up his African-American-dominated district to run for the Democratic nomination in the 2010 gubernatorial race. He lost in the primary, and the the winning Democrat subsequently lost to the Republican by 16 points, 42 percent to 58 percent.

What a crock of elephant apples! How many cases of actual voter fraud have been documented (not just reported in some right wing blog) and verified in the past two elections? The drive by the Republican party to require new forms of ID to vote, restrict absentee ballots, and eliminate early voting, is nothing but a blatant attempt to suppress the vote among likely Democratic voters. Add to that the attempts by Republican to change the way electoral votes will be counted, and it's clear that the Republicans are worried that they can't put their elitist ideas and plans to help only the wealthiest in the population before the full electorate and win. Even a woodchuck brain, tiny and deranged as it is, should be able to see that.

I agree, at least the Dems are more simplistic. Just put people outside the polling place to make sure certain people don't get in to vote.

And just how many instances of that have occurred in the past two elections? And please, don't try to use the two black guys at one location as evidence of widespread voter intimidation.

those guys are good boys. All they were doing was waiting for their Granny to come out . The wooden clubs mean nothing, they were going to play a game of rob the liquor store after they walked Granny home.

it would seem intimidation is ok, just don't make things hard by requiring an ID, or changing a date. That would just be too much to handle.

It seems that both sides, every election cycle, claim that the other side committed fraud and intimidation or other form of voter fraud/manipulation. There is probably truth to at least some of it.

Republican or Democrat... same difference as Gambino or Genovese.

And how many cases have actually been taken to court? By either side. The most often sited case it the one in the last election where two members of the New Black Panther Party (?) were standing outside a polling place in Philadelphia that was something like 92% black and 98% of the voters voted for Obama. Now who was it they were supposed to be scaring off? This "voter fraud" thing is total nonsense.

On the other hand, coming up with a document that says that you were born an American citizen can be difficult, especially with older Americans. I know of a case of a woman applying for Social Security whose birth certificate had been destroyed in a fire and she had a very hard time getting survivor benefits.

And some states want the citizens to buy the ID, not telling them that if they cannot afford it the state is required to supply it at no cost.

What's that have to do with Voter fraud?

EXACTLY!! The only reason we sink deeper into this hole is because SOOOO many are willing to beat each other over the head about party while the Dems and Repubs sit in the same bar drinking bourbon together and laughing at us all.

12 former officials indicted for voter fraud

QUITMAN, GA (WALB) - 12 former Brooks County officials were indicted for voter fraud. The suspects are accused of illegally helping people vote by absentee ballot.

State officials launched an investigation after an unusually high number of absentee ballots were cast in the July 2010 primary election. "As a result of their grand jury findings 12 individuals were indicted in that particular matter and we will be trying that case in a court of judicial law instead of a court of public opinion so that will be pending this next year," said District Attorney Joe Mulholland.

The defendants include some workers in the voter registrar's office and some school board members. They are Angela Bryant, April Proctor, Brenda Monds, Debra Denard, Lula Smart, Kechia Harrison, Robert Denard, Sandra Cody, Elizabeth Thomas, Linda Troutman, Latashia Head, and Nancy Denard.

Remember the Florida "chad" ballots that helped elect Pres Bush?

That's it? That's all you can come up with in the past two national election cycles in a country of over 300 million people? You're actually trying to make a case for voter fraud based on 12 black people accused in rural Georgia (wow, no possibility of bias there) -- in a little city of 4,000 people? That may seem a big deal to a woodchuck, but it hardly makes a case for changing voting requirements, especially when the case has nothing to do with requiring photo ID.
