A 40-year-old Wayne County man who was shot accidentally shot in his right leg Saturday is in satisfactory condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.
John M. Iwasiw, of 7690 Road, Sodus, was getting out of a vehicle about 2:15 p.m. Saturday afternoon when his .45-caliber handgun discharged at 5276 Route 64 in Bristol, Ontario County, according to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office.
He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital by Mercy Flight helicopter.

How do you know that it wasn't a revolver? If you're carrying a fully loaded revolver, you've always got a round chambered, and don't always have a safety.
That's why I asked my question. As far as I know, a revolver has no safety, other than the traditional good practice of leaving one chamber empty, which some fools don't do.

For the most part, you are correct. Single action revolvers have no external safety mechanism. Leaving an empty chamber under the hammer is the best way to stay "safe."
