Hey there,

Thought I would chime in on this topic only because I have been through this many of times with laptop screens just going blank but the computer works fine.

There is a FN key on laptops and usually under the F5 or F3 key there is a two square symbol that will turn the laptop monitor off and the external video port on. Hit it again and it will put both ports on, and hit it a third time and its back to just the laptop display being active. So for example FN+F5 keys together.

I don't know how many times I have had people bring me a laptop where the display appears dead, hit those buttons and walla the lights are on and someone is home.

Hope this helps in some way,
