I tried to install a 1 TB hard drive in a computer that apparently was too old to handle something that big. While I was attempting to install windows onto it, the screen locked up and froze.
I restarted the computer but when I tried again to install windows I got a message saying that an error occurred in loading the system. I tried repeatedly to restart the computer and continued to get this message.

My question is, did I mess up the hard drive?
If so, how do I fix it?
Should I just stick with knitting and leave the computer stuff to someone who knows what they're doing?
BTW, this was just a for fun experiment!

Have you asked the manufacturer? Was the drive compatible to your computer?

Yes, I did, unfortunately I found that out after the fact. The computer was too old and too slow to handle that size hard drive.

Sounds like it's time for a new computer...

Yes it is. Do you think the hard drive is damaged though? I want to return it but I don't want to return something that I damaged.

I'm going to guess no, but I'm not sure. I'm sure that the manufacturer would appreciate it back in it's original packaging. Also, if they know you tried to install it, there is always a chance that they will not exchange it.

Yes... just bring the drive and the original packaging back to the store with you. You have 30 days from the date of purchase.I am assuming that there is not physical damage in terms to the casing or patch cords
