SENECA FALLS - The second annual It’s A Wonderful Race held in the village Dec. 11 was filmed by crews from MTV for its “Made” series, and the episode will be aired this week, at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
The popular entertainment channel show focused on race entrant Vanessa Diaz-Hemmerick of Rochester. She is a young mother trying to get back into shape after the birth of her child.
The MTV “Made’’ series features people trying to overcome obstacles to reach goals that improve their lives.
MTV officials agreed to film Diaz-Hemmerick as she prepared for and ran in her first 5-kilometer race. That came in Seneca Falls as part of the annual “It’s A Wonderful Life” celebration in the village.
The race drew nearly 900 entrants, almost double the number from the initial race in 2009.
The holiday celebration is based on the belief by many that this village was the basis for Bedford Falls in the 1946 Frank Capra classic movie.
MTV is on Channel 28 on the Time Warner cable system that serves much of the Finger Lakes.
Race co-director Tina Rook said she was informed of the airing time in an e-mail from MTV officials, based in New York City.
“It focused on the woman, but it will show a lot of Seneca Falls on a national stage, so that’s good,” Rook said.
After the show runs Wednesday, the program will go to reruns and will also be on the MTV website.
