Having never seen any report generated by the new financial software, I can not attest to whether or not anyone can understand them or not.

That said C.I. is right when it comes to Quickbooks and outsourcing the village and MUB pay roll functions.

I am sure that the the village could find an accounting firm to do this for under $2,000 a month. Doing this would eliminate the need for one deputy clerk that costs the village about $4,000 a month when you add in benefits.
Why should anyone but Shawna lose their job she is the only one who can't perform their job? The Village never had this problem before she was hired, the trustees need to take charge and get rid of her.

You would think that 8 months into fiscal year 2010/11 that we would know how much was spent in fiscal year 2009/10.
You would think Shawna might know but she doesn't have a clue.

The village of Penn Yan should review all of its staffing needs. I agree with Alice and Toto that staffing cuts can be made. BTW welcome back, we missed your insightful thinking.

1) We are about to take out an additional 4 million in debt for the sewer system. Kaching Kaching. Our water fund already went up 60 cents per thousand gallons in one year. Kaching Kaching.
2) We just hired Trustee Mike Christensen's son which in my opinion is a blatant violation of the ethics policy and a blatant conflict of interests. Kaching Kaching.
3) Cost saving measures such as outsourcing the payroll and accounting functions should be explored.
4) If what Mr. Hoban says is correct that a whole crapload of money is owed us from other sewer districts, then what are we doing about collecting it?
5) The Call Center is closing and unemployment will be on the rise.
6) No social security increases in two years.
7) New firetruck. kaching Kaching.

How much more of this can we take?

I appreciate the compliment. I was visiting relatives and friends in South Carolina and Alabama. Beginning to wonder why I don't live in the south. Much warmer and taxes are a lot lower.

The Village just received the audit report from June 2009-June 2010 that was contracted out to a expensive independent audit firm, this report was SENT to Village board members but they have let to see it. Upon information and belief it appears the Village Clerk has taken control of the audit and won't give it up,let's not forget she is SECOND IN CHARGE.Who's working for who?

Of the approximately $4 million in revenue the village spend approximately $2.2 million for salaries and employee benefits.
Another way to look at it is 88% of each tax payers village property taxes is used to pay the salaries and benefits for our village employees.

The average Penn Yan resident that does not work for the county, village, or the school has not gotten a raise in the last couple of years and even the federal government workers have now had their pay frozen for the next two years.

I think it is time for the village board to look at ways to trim the village payroll and stop giving raises to these employees for at least the next two years.
Trim that's a joke

Trim--I would guess we have more village employees now than we have ever had and it would seem we hire more outside firms for work that we used to do in house. Some of the best jobs in town now are working(lol)for the village or county.

The Village Board is raising our taxes again this year and there is no reason to.They claim they aren't given the Village workers a raise this year so why have they HIDDEN MONEY IN THE BUDGET FOR RAISES? That's right the Board at the public hearing lied to the public about where our money was really going,if you don't believe me than ask any board member. Then ask them if the Fire Chiefs aren't allowed to steal money anymore then why hasn't the firemen expenses gone down?

I tell people looking for jobs to go to the Village and tell them that 1) you belong to the golf club, 2) you are related to Mike Christensen, or 3) you are related to Shawna Wilber. You're guaranteed a job.

With all due respect, funny to some but not true at all. Yes, there are things happening on Elm St. that shouldn't be, but to make assumptions on how an individual is hired without knowing their background, education or any experience that they would bring to a position seems unfair.

You are correct when it comes to most hires, but there are enough fishy ones to make people wonder.
