Muslm Abdulsalam Al-Zahrani has been charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of Binghamton University Professor Richard T. Antoun a Jewish convert.

Saudi consulate will pay legal fees of man accused of killing Binghamton University professor
the government of Saudi Arabia will pay Al-Zahrani's legal fees.
The Saudis became aware of Al-Zahrani after reading media accounts of his alleged crime.
Al-Zahrani is charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death a week ago of Binghamton University anthropology professor emeritus Richard Antoun. Al-Zahrani, a cultural anthropology graduate student at BU, knew Antoun through his doctoral work within the department.
The consulate is in touch with Al-Zahrani's family, including one relative who lives in the U.S., discussing the judicial process and keeping them abreast of court dates. The consulate would not identify the relative living in this country.
Al-Zahrani has been held, without bail, in the Broome County Jail since his arraignment early Saturday morning.

Former BU grad student sentenced
The man accused of murdering a Binghamton University professor has been sentenced to fifteen years in prison and five years post release supervision.
In May, Abdulsalam Al-Zahrani pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the first degree.
Al-Zahrani, a former BU grad student, admitted to stabbing BU professor Richard Antoun with the intent to cause serious injury back in December of 2009.
It is expected that Al-Zahrani will be deported back to Saudi Arabia upon completion of his prison term.

5 years post release supervision when he's going to be deported... No Federal Civil Rights Violations Charges (which brings a mandatory 25 years [?])... someone asleep at the helm?
