I hate to ask this question because of the thread that will follow. But I am going through a really hard time right now and I need some help. I am a newly single mother of 2 children ( and yes I work full time) but when you are used to 2 incomes for the past 15 years and then your husband walks out you need help.
So....does anyone know when or if Penn Yan does a food for the needy?
Thanks!!

PYMom - no harrassment - I've been there. Go downtown to Millie's Pantry and ask fro details on their programs. They have things going on year 'round, not just at Holiday time. They have awesome programs. Go now! 19 Main street, just past Cam's.

pymom....sorry to hear of your misfortune, I've been somewhat where you are before......Yes, I echo zealots post, also don't be afraid to ask for public assistance...it is there for folks like you....at least you are working, good for you!! Also, check out lawyers.com for assistance pro bono....your walkout husband owes you child support and you, alimony, assuming you are divorcing....go for the jugular, if in fact he left as you state, don't "give him a break." I wish you all the best, it is not an easy time, but keep your chin up and walk proud!!

PYMom you can also stop down to the Office Of the Aging, located next to the DMV. Every month you can sign up for $45.00 of food for $15.00 and if you income substantiates with your family size. you can receive 4 months of food for free. For everyone else, if you would like to drop off non-perishables to Millies Pantry for this lady, I am sure they would hold it for her - otherwise you can drop off at my house on porch and I will match the donations of food with either food or money. PYmom, if your family really needs food email me @ mstgeorge1@roadrunner.com and I will help you out also.

Thank you all for the leads to some help. This is all so new to myself and my family, definatly not were I pictured my life. Also thank you for not posting any negative threads on here as that is what I was in fear of.
One more question....does PY do a Christmas for the needy, I saw this on the news this morning offered in Rochester.
THANKS AGAIN!!!

Call the Penn Yan First Baptist Church. They sponsor the food for the needy program and are going to deliver Thanksgiving baskets next Sunday to those in need in our community. 536-9821 and they are open 9-12 noon M-F.

pymom, I'd also get in touch with the local banks in your area for Xmas gifts. Many of them do "angel" trees. Maybe you could get some info on having your children become recipients of a gift or two.

Check out Milly's Pantry, Main Street, across from Pinckney's. They also have a program at the PY Baptist Church.
