UPDATED: Twelve people were killed and 31 injured during a shooting rampage Thursday at Fort Hood Army base in central Texas, according to the base's commanding officer. Lt. General Robert W. Cone said police shot dead the shooter, who was a soldier. He said two other suspects, who are also soldiers, are in custody, but he said they were not "confirmed shooters." Gen. Cone said during a televised press conference outside that base, that all those killed and injured were soldiers. He said the shootings took place about 1:30 p.m. at a soldier readiness center. Gen. Cone said the shooter used two handguns. White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said President Obama is being kept updated as details about the shooting emerge. Ft. Hood, in Killeen, Texas, is the largest U.S. military base in the world — home to roughly 34,000 people on 160,000 acres. Hood (Terry Lee) who says he was a harsh critic of U.S. foreign policy who said Muslims had a right to stand up and fight against the aggressor in Iraq and Afghanistan — i.e., us.
