A Final Note From Bob Mascari

A few odds and ends:
1. Final count was 12.5 pounds. While that's only a bucket of water out of the ocean, it's a start. A check for $125 will go out to the SPCA and another for $125 to the Beverly Animal Shelter will go out this week. Please support the work of both groups. As Gandhi once remarked: "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
2. I have quickly read through the postings about the election results. The vast majority of the postings were fair points and valid speculation. A very small few were not as lofty in thought in principle as they could be. To those very very few posters, I believe your hearts got the best of you. Let's remember not to be sore losers and also remember the old saying that the only thing worse than a sore loser is a sore winner. In the end, the simple truth is that I lost by a wide margin.
3. I enjoyed my participation on this forum. Whether it won me votes or lost them, I continue to believe it was important to be accessible. Is it as good as a real face-to-face discussion? Of course not and I suspect much got lost in the rapid back and forth of posts and responses. I'll leave it to minds greater than mine the ultimate impact of the forums.
4. One point that is important to me to make: Whatever you think of me, what I've done, or how I've acted, please do me the service of seriously considering my devotion to Seneca County. It is a wonderful place with wonderful people. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to have served the people of the county for 7 1/2 years. I will be forever grateful for the chance to have been a candidate. I leave with no regrets and with a boatload of fond memories.
5. For those who wonder, I did resign from Madison County as Chief Assistant. During October, to help out the office which was suddenly down an attorney, I was given the title of PT Investigator which had no residency requirement and allowed me to review and prepare paperwork without my signature. After the election results, DA Gabor was kind enough to ask me to come back and serve as Chief Assistant. That is what I will do and will be starting back up on Monday, November 9. Yes, I will have to complete the steps to be able to serve in that capacity including residency. No, we have no intentions of selling our four acres in Tyre.
6. Finally, below I have printed out my final letter to the FLT. As I mentioned before, I will continue to follow this forum as a lurker and occasional poster -- although not on issues dealing with the DA's Office. As noted in my letter, it is truly time for me to fade into the background and I will make no responses to this final post on the election.
Thanks,
Bob

To the Editor: If I could trouble the Finger Lakes Times for a few more lines of newsprint, I would like to accomplish the following: First, let me start by getting around to that belated concession of the election. It is my sincere hope that the people of Seneca County will be well served by the District Attorney-Elect and that he will bring to the position the positive vision which characterized the beginning of his campaign. Second, I wish to thank the many people who encouraged and supported me for the last nine months. These people are too numerous to name, but they know who they are and I will be forever grateful. Whether it was a gift of their time, advice, money, good humor, or lawns for signs, it was greatly appreciated. It is humbling when people support you for no other reason than they think it is the right thing to do. Third, I want to thank the many men and women of law enforcement who lined up in support of my candidacy. I will be forever honored by their backing. I know these people and I know how committed they are to serving the people of Seneca County. These are people that the community should take great pride in and support completely. Fourth, I would like to thank the Democratic Party for allowing me the opportunity to be their candidate for District Attorney. I hope that they agree that I ran a positive campaign from beginning to end that always s tayed focused on the issues. They are honorable people and well led by Ted Young and Ruth Same. Fifth, to all the voters of Seneca County my sincere thanks for considering my candidacy and voting. Your act of casting a ballot is perhaps the single most important step in keeping our country free. I respect your decision and will now quietly fade into the background. Finally, and most importantly, I want to thank my wonderful family who were rocks during this whole process. With them, I am truly blessed and incredibly lucky. Bob Mascari Candidate for Seneca Co. DA 315-399-6453

Although we didn't take advantage of it, thank you for giving us the opportunity to have a true professional heading the District Attorney's office. You really are a class act and a true gentleman.

Bob...every once in a while, the best team does not win the game, or the fastest car does not always win the race...however, you were deserving and gave it a great effort...tough loss to bear, but you have nothing to be ashamed of...keep your head up and move on...good luck to you!!!
