It will leave a hole 40 plus feet deep. And cover somewhere near 150 plus square acres. Just the noise of the mining operation, with in 1 1/2 miles of the four corners of downtown Waterloo, will be enough to cause neighbors aggravation. And now that we have taken all that land out of use, forever, where is any possible future growth north for Waterloo? They say there are "No Landfills" permitted in Waterloo. But town boards rewrite laws and regulations all the time. Jim Money I mean Mooney got re-elected and he is for the proposed mine. A while ago when Waterloo residents complained that Seneca Falls was getting money from Seneca Meadows, yet the trash was affecting us more than them, they were outraged. So our town officials held out their hand for a slice of the pie. The real issue that bothered Waterloo the most was the landfill expansion period, end of story. The town of Seneca Falls wants it let them have it in their back yard not ours. So on our behalf the Community Benefits Agreement was signed. They caught the part about no landfills in Waterloo, but missed the boat on the strip mine. Now at the 11 1/2 hour the area neighbors are fighting to stop it, and the ones who signed it are either too embarrassed to admit they missed it, or just plain don't care. Ever dive by the gravel pits on 96 and wonder how that would look as farm land? Well unless a lot more people in Waterloo wake up, that is what we will be wondering right at the end of Virginia Street.
