Is anyone aware of a phishing scam involving AVG 8.5? A relative says he got a message on his computer that his AVG Free Version 8.5 would expire on Dec.1 and he needed to update to Version 9.0 for a fee of $49.95. His AVG updates automatically as far as I know. This whole deal sounds suspicious to me. I don't think AVG does business that way. Any thoughts out there? Anyone experience anything similar lately?

I use AVG and have had no messages about 8.5 needing to update, but thanks for the warning! I'll let you know if I receive anything.

AVG 9.0 was released a short time ago. You can get the free version - for FREE, or the paid version for $54.99.

I did it backwards. I got Linux for free, so I don't worry about viruses. You're in luck, though, in addition to AV software; security patches are available from MS. Lots of them.

You dont worry about viruses, you can sure as heck send them out in mass though and never know it....Yes.

To Rich: it does not replace Malwarebytes (another sweet program) continue to run that once a week or once every 2 weeks.
