Maybe paterson can lower the fees on driving infractions if higher fees has little effect.

If cold turkey does not work then slowly reduce the amount per day. Also ask those around you to resist when in your presence until the first few weeks if you try the cold turkey method.

I so agree......
I am a true anarchist and HATE being controlled and told what to do...yet I allow a tiny *cancer stick* to control me and tell me what to do 50-60 times a day!

SH that was actually one of the ways that I ended up kicking the habit. When someone said that to me I looked at it in a different way and thought, no way in Hell was I going to let a stupid cig control my life.

Had a friend who take 1 week (vacation) from work and isolated themselves in their home so there was no contact with anyone that smoked. Allowed them to get over the first few difficult days. Being in the presence of others that smoke makes it difficult to stop.

Too true.

I went from 5 packs a day to zero - cold turkey. Just threw them away.

It will be 23 years in January.

Well yes I know that a long time ago you could smoke at work. I quit when we had to go from smoking at our desks to smoking outside the door. Then after that it went from outside the door to 25 ft from building and then to parking lot, now not on the grounds at all.

I smoked a long time ago. Loved that first smoke with a cup of Joe in the morning.....still crave it once in a while...

Unless you can get all around you to quit it is 100 times harder to keep the will......

Try smoking less, that is a win too....

Thanks a lot pal I sincerely appreciate the well wishes. I am taking your advice to heart and will try to cut back slowly but surely. I know I can't go cold turkey.

Look the first hurdle is throttling back a bit...

You don't have to quit cold.....

Everytime you put a cig to your lips think ...

........Should I skip this one for ZG Lusifer?

RG and all smokers out there: You have a serious drug addiction. You don't love smoking. You hate smoking. You just HAVE to smoke because of the addiction. The truth is, you will NEVER be ready to quite smoking because the addiction will ALWAYS find a way to undermine your efforts......if you let it. Forget that "I've got to be ready" stuff. Its time to quit. You know it. Do it. Grow up. Do whatever you have to do. Lots of people have quit. I'm one of them.

I have a cousin who used to be the head of Travelers insurance for the entire Northeast. He actually gave me my first job out of college selling insurance. ( I hated it).
He at one time was smoking 5 packs a day. Yup 5. Practically lighting one off the other. He went to a hypnotist and quit cold turkey for maybe 3-4 months. One Thanksgiving evening we were tossing down some Crown Royals on the rocks and he had 1 cigarette. Boom right back to 5 packs.

The truth is everybody is different, and everybody has their own motivation to quit. No one thing works for everybody. As someone mentioned it is a very powerful addiction, equal to cocaine or heroin and not easily overcome.

I have given up some things in the past few months that were once very much a part of my life and I don't miss them one bit. Suffice to say they brought me great pleasure also. Sadly I cannot seem to find the cure for cigarette smoking. I'm not worried about gaining 20 lbs. I could actually probably use it.

I know flat out without smoking right now I would be bitchy as Hell, and I can't be like that to the woman I love so dearly. She is my life and I love her more than anything. I'll try to cut down, and even that I admit I am failing miserably at.

We all have our excuses for not doing what we know in our hearts we just have to do. You'll get bitchy? So what? If she loves you the way you say you love her, she'll tolerate it. And BTW, you don't have to get bitchy. Medications for that. I know. I used them. Truth is, RG, it unfortunately will probably take a doctor giving you the bad news to "get you motivated." See how bitchy you become then.

Quite the excuses, get out of the denial, and do it!

Smoking killed the grandfather I never got to meet. Most recently I've known several people to be diagnosed with lung cancer or bilateral lung cancer. They have all quit. Smoking is stupid. It always bothers me when I see either a young person or someone I like smoking. Others--not so much. At least if you buy your pack of death at the tax free cancer shop you won't have to pay extra for a lingering, painful demise.
