In a proactive measure to protect the safety of patients, family, visitors and staff, Arnot Ogden Medical Center is restricting children under the age of 18 and anyone feeling ill from visiting patients, including family members, starting October 29.
Dr. William Huffner, Chief Medical Officer and Vice President/Medical Affairs at Arnot stated, “To promote patient, family, visitor and staff safety, Arnot Health will begin restricting visitation. This step is taken as an important method to decrease exposure and potential exposure to the influenza virus. Children under the age of 18 are often more likely to get influenza and can be infectious for longer periods of time.” He added, “We apologize for the inconvenience but the safety of our patients, family, visitors and staff is our number one priority." In cases where exceptions may be necessary, the policy allows for families and visitors to work with hospital managers to ensure the safety and well being of all involved with a specific patient. Friends and family can still visit http://www.arnothealth.org to send e-greetings to patients. E-greetings are printed out and delivered to the patient room by Medical Center volunteers.
