Seneca County's hazardous waste drop-day is Oct. 17 at the County Highway Department in Romulus. You can dispose of old computers and other electronics, but you have to call (315-539-1945)and register by October 7 and provide a a list of the items you want to drop off.

Actually "They" have been known to retrieve data from the shattered platters of hard drives. Like a wedge from a piece of pie, if the data hasen't been written over multiple times. That is an extreme case though.
Computers plus in the mini mall in Waterloo takes old computers for recycling. 6514304 http://www.computerplusny.com/ It's free and they even come and pick it up.

If you are getting a new comp to replace the old one, why not just take out the old hard drive and put it in the new comp? It is very easy to do. That way you would have extra storage space and could save some of the old data, or you could just reformat the old hard drive once it is in the new comp.
