Make sure you wipe the drive, you never know what some unscrupulous person may be able to discover.

Seneca County's hazardous waste drop-day is Oct. 17 at the County Highway Department in Romulus. You can dispose of old computers and other electronics, but you have to call (315-539-1945)and register by October 7 and provide a a list of the items you want to drop off.

As for erasing your hard drive, here's a link that might help: http://www.pcworld.com/article/157126/how_to_completely_erase_a_hard_drive.html

Take the hard drive out of the machine and drill holes thru it.....then burn it....then bury it or throw it into the canal....

Put it in a plastic bag, pour a gallon of bleach and a gallon of homelite bar chain oil into the bag, tie tight and bury 43 inches below the surface.....

Actually "They" have been known to retrieve data from the shattered platters of hard drives. Like a wedge from a piece of pie, if the data hasen't been written over multiple times. That is an extreme case though.

If you are getting a new comp to replace the old one,
why not just take out the old hard drive and put it in the new comp? It is very easy to do.
That way you would have extra storage space and could save some of the old data,
or you could just reformat the old hard drive once it is in the new comp.

Computique across from the mini mall (where the old computer plus was) has a sign out front saying they recyle old computers.

Be sure to take out the hard drive and destroy it.... but keep the magnets they work great as refrigerator magnets
