Swimmer drowns in Cross Lake

A man who was swimminng in Cross Lake in Cato drowned Saturday.
Cayuga County emergency dispatchers said a call for a missing person came in just before 7 p.m. Saturday and that the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police and several area fire departments sent people to assist with the search.
Divers were specifically requested to report to the scene.
The sheriff's office said the man's body was recovered Saturday night.
Two men previously drowned on area lakes this summer. A man vacationing with his family at Owasco Lake drowned July 25 after diving off a motorboat. His body has still not been found despite exhaustive searches in a widespread area of water near Scipio. And a man drowned in Cayuga Lake Aug. 2 after falling out of a boat near the village of Cayuga.
His body was recovered by divers two days later.
