(Albany, N.Y.) – After flash flooding in central Niagara County, including Lockport, and heavy thunderstorms producing torrential rainfall in Western N.Y., the governor declared a State Disaster Emergency to speed up assistance to Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Erie Counties.
These counties and surrounding areas suffered loss of life and extensive damage from the thunderstorms and flooding which still threaten public health and safety Monday afternoon.
“While utility crews have been mobilized to restore power, the outages may last multiple days,” Paterson said. “The order I have signed today will expedite out-of-state utility crews’ entry in the State to help turn the power on that much quicker.”
