this forum is more restrictive than any forum I have ever seen - everevereverever. Ever. Anyone know why? No images? *100 character limit*?!

I have been on forums run by teenagers, with mostly teenagers posting, and they are pretty non restrictive and run decently. There is no rift in space and time because they all post images in their signatures. If a bunch of kids can handle the apparently HUGE responsibility of posting images in your signature, or (gasp) more than 100 characters, why is this forum so fascist? People are always talking about America being the Land of the Free... but don't you dare post a picture in your signature young man! If we lengthened the character limit, people might...well they might.. post long quotes or some other such nonsense!

This forum seems restrictive in other ways (oh my god they talked about other people!) but the signature thing is ridiculous.

Pictures used to be allowed in our signatures until it was abused by some posters. Some of the pictures used in the signatures were huge and very annoying. So that priviledge was taken away.

We used to have other priviledges too. But the restrictions followed abuse of priviledges.

Sorry to rain on your parade. ;\)

I don't think anyone wants to see a paragraph everytime someone makes a post. Short, sweet, and simple. That's good enough.

If you want a Myspace page...

Who says sigs have to be seen on each post?
Set limits on image sizes, say, 300x150 pixels, and then text to go along with certain limits on length, and then only show the sigs for the first post of a user on a page in the thread.

I think FL1 should stop all the (quotes). Have seen posts where pages of quotes have taken up the whole forum. A quote is posted with one sentence after by the poster.Done by poster after poster.Heavens, can't you back up a little and read what was posted before and then add what you want to the subject?

Actually she does all the time. But she's also brutally honest, and she's right if you don't like the way the forum is just stop coming here.

Obviously there have been changes made in the way the forum is run(according to the above posts)so maybe that person thought things could change again. Or maybe he was just asking for an explanation. I just seem to notice whenever someone new, or someone that doesn't post often comes on here, they get slammed by one of the old-timers. Doesn't really matter what the topic. It's a "playground mentality".

Yes, there has been changes to the forums within the last year or so. FL1 bought a new software package for the forums. It brought a new look and some nice new features along with it. It also did not include some things people really liked in the past. For example you at one time could open a thread and get sent right to all the new posts and not have to scroll back on your own and find where you left off, this was very popular and a nice feature. You also at one time could start a new thread and conduct a poll but the new software doesn't allow this.

As to pictures in signature lines this was changed before the new software format. Many, and I have to admit I was guilty also had obtrusive sized pics in their sig line. The owner of FL1 just made the choice to no longer allow it. It made for many more posts per page no matter what settings you are using.

I might concur to a point where a new poster may be ostracized a bit at times. But more times than not it is because of their post content and not because they are new. Many times people sign up to post on 1 thread then never post again. Thus 5000 members and about 100 people actually post. It really isn't a "playground mentality" for the most part sans an occasional bout of that.
I took offense to you calling Della out for that because she is truly one of the nicest people you will ever meet in your entire life, and I know her very very well. She says lots of nice things and will help anybody if she can.
