Oh Hell they have been here for a long time already. When I lived with Threesons in Newark 2003-05 they got in the house all the time. And they do stink if you squish them, best to just gently pick them up and toss them back outside.

I'm familiar with the kind that have been around here all my life, and there are about 250 more kinds in the US. But as far as I know the kind I'm familiar with don't bite, like this kind does, and they have a sickly sweetish smell which is unpleasant, but not like rotten garbage like this kind. Are you sure you had this new kind? I'm thinking that if it had been in NYS since 2003 it would have been reported and would be on that map, especially since they are a terrible crop pest.

I'm also thinking they would have bitten you if you picked them up.
