Baseball Begins

Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 08:05 PM

Braves @ Nationals 8pm on ESPN

WOOHOO

Take me out to the ball game
Take me out to the crowd
Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks
I don't care if I never never get back

Let me root, root root for the home team
If they don't win it's a shame
For it's one, two, three strikes you're out
At the old ball game!

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 08:17 PM

You got it Anne. Play ball \:\)

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 08:24 PM

Who or WHAT was that singing the national anthem? Everyone in the crowd looked like they were being tortured.
Posted by: AnneSmile

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 08:27 PM

I don't care if you agree with Bush or not, how dare they boo him at a baseball game. Come on

She is an Opera singer. Unless it is Gerard Butler in the Phantom of the Opera I do not know much about the artists. ;\) OK, Luciano Pavarotti and who is that 14 year old girl? She is good.

EDIT

Charlotte Church is her name \:\)

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 08:32 PM

I agree w/you about Bush. I personally didn't care for the singer. PLAY BALL \:\)

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 08:52 PM

Nick Johnson hits in the first run. Go figure. Ex-Yankees first baseman.

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 08:55 PM

TEHE 0-2

I know it's only the 1st inning but still. TEHE

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 09:03 PM

OK, I give up, why are you routing for the Nationals? I have the Braves closer on my fantasy team, so...
Posted by: AnneSmile

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 09:16 PM

I go by feelings, not numbers. I like the underdogs \:\)

Braves may have excellent numbers but the Nationals train up the road from me in the spring. Remember my mentioning their game the other day \:\) My brother has met some of them over the years and know them personally, good peeps.

If you watch me throughout the season I usually root for the underdog unless they have an idiot on their team ;\)

If asked I will tell people that I am a Yankees fan, but this year I want to see the Dodgers do well because I like Torre.

I annoy many die hard baseball people because I go on feeling not numbers.
Posted by: nymmamma

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 09:17 PM

OK, I'll respect that. I'll miss Torre on the Yankee bench this year, gonna be weird.
Posted by: Coach64

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 09:19 PM

They can boo who ever the hell they want. His approval rating is terrible, and he is doing a terrible job as president so why the hell shouldn't he be booed.
Posted by: AnneSmile

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 09:20 PM

Time and place. This was neither
Posted by: nymmamma

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 09:21 PM

I agree w/Anne. Not on this big night, opening of baseball season (Japan may count in the stats, but not the real thing).
Posted by: Coach64

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 09:23 PM

Its at a freaking baseball game. The wonderful thing about our country is we can do that.
Posted by: nymmamma

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 09:25 PM

Boo the president on opening night? No, this is America's past time. No room for that crap.
Posted by: AnneSmile

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 09:26 PM

Mamma, lets ignore him and just enjoy the game ;\)
Posted by: Coach64

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 09:26 PM

Terrible argument. When is it ok to boo the president then in your america?
Posted by: nymmamma

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 09:28 PM

Not on the opening night of baseball, when Americans are trying to relax and enjoy a game. This isn't CNN.

Your right, its WASHINGTON DC.

Start that discussion in the debate forum then. I watch baseball to have fun and not think about politics and life in general.
Posted by: Coach64

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 09:46 PM

You started the discussion
Posted by: AnneSmile

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 09:49 PM

You're right, I apologize. I didn't think it would start a debate, just an afterthought on my part
Posted by: AnneSmile

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 09:50 PM

We can talk about Bushie's time in the reporters box if you want, that is game related.

He needed more emotion for the first home run but overall he was OK.

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 09:50 PM

Let's just enjoy the ballgame.

Just back on the Prez for a moment, what did you think of his K-Zone LOL I thought it was funny
Posted by: Coach64

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 10:00 PM

HAHA, its really bothering you that I don't like the president. If you want to watch your game, watch it. I'm not asking you to reply.
Posted by: nymmamma

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 10:08 PM

I liked how his favorite teams are the Astros and the Rangers. Mr. Texas. Oh well, he's not a MLB manager, he's the prez. Enjoy the rest of the game.
Posted by: AnneSmile

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 10:12 PM

My favorite teams are Yankees then the Mets for baseball and football are the Bills and Giants

Call me Ms. New York

Back to the game, what do you think so far?

I am loving it, you? I selfishly want Atlanta to go up so Sorieno has a chance at a save.

Re: Baseball Begins - 03/30/08 10:15 PM

I am having fun too. Looking forward to tomorrow with the Yankees and then the Dodgers later.

My brother keeps chiming in on the players he knows, fun fun.

All I need are some crackerjacks with the old fashioned toy in the bottom.

Mr. Bush was the former owner of the Rangers.

Hey I heard on the National Lampoon sports report that the Twins fans are planning on being so bad this year there's talk of changing the name to the Minnesota Mary Kate and Ashley Olsens! LOL

They also reported on the record crowd to watch the Dodgers/Bosox play and said if they want a crowd that big again they'll move the game to Paris Hiltons' bedroom !

Thank you and goodnight.

Hopefully, for Mets fans, he's only out for weeks
rather than months.

Sun night baseball on in a few. Wonder if the Tigas can finally get a win?

Re: Baseball Begins - 04/06/08 08:33 PM

So here's the deal.
What seems like nothing short of an eternity, the Mets can not seem to beat the Braves.
This is without a doubt one of the most mindboggling incidents in the last 20 years of Mets baseball.
We cannot beat a team that once their starting pitchers are out of the game have NO bullpen to speak of.

C'MON WILLIE!!! MAN UP AND BEAT THIS TEAM ALREADY!!!!

but i digress...

Pitching matchup
MIN: RHP Livan Hernandez (5-1, 3.83 ERA)
In his first career start against the White Sox on Wednesday, Hernandez delivered his 44th complete game. The crafty veteran held Chicago to just one run on seven hits, with the lone run coming on a Jermaine Dye solo homer. Mixing in pitches ranging from 59-85 mph, Hernandez has been teaching the younger arms in the Twins' rotation how to keep lineups off-balance by changing speeds.

BOS: RHP Clay Buchholz (2-2, 4.50 ERA)
Buchholz did not look good in his last start on Wednesday. After winning two of his last three starts, he earned a no-decision, allowing five runs on 10 hits in just four innings in his first career start against the mighty Tigers' lineup.

Tidbits
The Twins found some power in Sunday's victory over Boston. For the first time this season Minnesota hit more than one home run in a game. Minnesota hit three home runs Sunday, but heading into the game the power numbers have not been kind to the Twins. The Twins ranked last in the Major Leagues in home runs with just 17 before Sunday's game. Last year Minnesota ranked 29th out of 30 teams with 118 homers. ... Injuries continue to plague the Twins as of late. Nick Punto became the third Twins player in the last two weeks to be placed on the disabled list. Previously, Pat Neshek and Scott Baker were both put on the shelf with injuries. ... Brendan Harris has also missed a few games with an injury, but was not placed on the DL. Gardenhire said he expected Harris back in the lineup Monday against the Red Sox.

That's one of the reasons I love, love, love baseball. Best of luck to your Twins this weekend. All the experts predicted gloom and doom for them w/out Santana, and they're more than holding their own.
